“Health and cheerfulness naturally beget each other.” -Joseph Addison, English essayist, poet and playwright

This statement is certainly true for the residents at The Knolls. With personalized wellness programs, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, and a skilled wellness staff, living at The Knolls makes it easy to stay happy, healthy and active.

Wellness for All

“When a new resident moves to The Knolls, we ask them to share with us their current fitness routine, personal interests and their fitness goals,” says Carolyn Newman, the wellness director at The Knolls. “Whether they want to lose weight, build muscle or improve balance, we create a wellness program for them.” Carolyn has worked at the community for 15 years, holds a B.S. in physical education and is certified in senior fitness.

Whether you enjoy exercising alone, in classes, in the pool, or on land, there’s a class for you. Fitness opportunities are endless, making it easier to achieve your fitness goals.

“It’s so rewarding to see residents improve, to see that they feel invigorated,” adds Carolyn, “and that is truly a pleasure.” Carolyn dedicates some of her time to exploring and reading up on the latest research, trends and innovations in the fitness world to be able to help residents reach their fitness goals.

Exceptional Wellness Amenities

Residents at The Knolls have access to the many different health and wellness amenities available on campus, all included in the monthly service package. This exceptional value makes it easy to exercise exactly the way you want, without having to leave campus.

The Knolls is home to a substantially sized swimming pool that’s open five days a week, with a lifeguard always on duty. Whether you want to take a class, or just go for a quick dip, the pool is available to residents and their guests.

Pool classes include a shallow and/or deep water work out, and aerobics, among others. Other fitness classes include Tai Chi, yoga, aerobics, strength training, and balance classes.

“The most popular class is the morning workout, Rise and Shine, which we host in the Victorian Hall,” says Amy Post, the cultural arts director at The Knolls.

Residents also have unlimited access to the community wellness center, and can use any of the fitness equipment, including the treadmills, state-of-the-art cross trainers, weight machines, free weights and more.

The services and amenities at The Knolls are like having a gym membership, pool membership, personal trainer, fitness tracker and fitness classes, all included in your monthly service package.
