Summer is officially approaching, and with longer days and warmer weather, that means more adventures and more time spent outside. At The Knolls, plans for summer trips are abundant and already underway!

“I go on trips pretty much whenever there is one offered, two or three times a month,” says Alice M., a resident at The Knolls. “I can always look forward to something that will interest me and intrigue me.”

Alice adds that, “some of [her] favorite trips have been to museums, the Botanical Garden, and particularly things in New York City.”

Throughout the season, there are many outings planned and provided by The Knolls. Residents suggest destinations, and staff plans the trips.

“Summer is a great time for us to take trips. We plan to visit a wide variety of attractions,” says Amy Post, Cultural Arts Director at The Knolls. Amy often assists in planning trips, and goes on many of them herself. “Residents can simply sign up to go and we take care of the rest.”

This coming summer, residents will travel to several historical sites such as the John Jay Homestead in Katonah, NY and the Bush-Holley House & Exhibition Gallery in Greenwich, CT.

Museums are another popular destination, and with New York City located so close, there are a countless number to visit. This summer, residents will be taking trips to the Brooklyn Museum to see the Georgia O’Keefe Exhibit, the Museum of Art & Design in New York City for the “Counter Culture” and Judith Leiber exhibits, as well as a visit to the Bruce Museum for “Spring into Summer with Andy Warhol & Friends” in Greenwich, CT.

If you prefer expanding your culinary horizons, you can get a taste of the area’s fine dining and waterfront venues with summer trips to Cornetta’s, located on the water in Piermont, or to Shiraz in Elmsford for a Persian lunch.

“It’s one more thing that makes it pleasant living here,” says Alice. “I get to see things that I might not get to on my own. And many of my friends sign up for the same trips because we’re interested in the same things.”

Don’t see a trip you want to go on? Make a suggestion and The Knolls will make it happen!
